From wild botanicals to the still
When Charles-Antoine and Lilian set to work in the garden, they do not simply cultivate flower beds—they create liqueurs. Calendula is the expression of their shared passion for untamed botanicals, exuberant aromas, and ideas that grow as freely as the hay around them.
For more than three years, chef Charles-Antoine Crête and our master distiller, Lilian, combined their curiosity and intuition in an ambitious exploratory endeavour. Their playground: Quebec’s gardens, a living nursery of plants, roots, buds, and blossoms from which they sought to capture the very essence.
Guided by equal parts technical precision and creative imagination, they coaxed from each botanical its most delicate and unexpected aromatic qualities. From this remarkable abundance emerged a selection of 67 carefully chosen ingredients. Masterfully balanced and distilled in a Charentais alembic still, the blend gives rise to our radiant Calendula.
On the nose, a bright menthol freshness leads the way, intertwined with resinous nuances before unfolding into a complex tapestry of more subtle herbal aromas. The palate reveals layers of balsam fir and wild botanicals that linger gracefully, supported by a gentle bitterness and a refreshing, persistent lift.
Equally compelling as an aperitif or digestif, enjoyed neat or over ice, Calendula invites a slow exploration of its herbaceous character and aromatic complexity.
